What are the differences between DVD and Blu Ray?

Some of the differences between DVD and Blu Ray are mentioned below, have a look;

Storage Capacity

The first difference between DVD and Blu Ray is the storage capacity. A standard DVD can hold 4.7 GB of data. This space is enough for one movie. For a movie that is longer than two hours, you would require to buy a double layer external DVD player recorder that can store around 9GB of data. A Blu Ray disc can hold around 50GB of data.

Image Resolution

Image resolution is defined as how your picture looks on the disc. A DVD is a standard definition device but you wont get a high definition viewing experience. On the contrary, a Blu Ray disc is made of HD, hence providing an excellent quality picture with 1080 HD capacity.

Disc Construction

Apparently, both DVD and Blu ray discs look similar. However, the grooves of Blu Ray are much closer and thinner. This is what makes Blu Ray store more data and read more precise data. In addition, Blu Ray discs are also more scratch resistant than DVDs.

Laser Technology

Both DVD and Blu Ray players incorporate laser technology. The only difference is that the DVD laser is a red laser while the Blu Ray laser is blue. The DVD laser works at 650nm and the Blu Ray laser works at 405 nm. It clearly demonstrates that Blu Ray can read information more precisely and closely. Samsung, Asus, Philips, LG, Sony, and Panasonic are the most renowned manufacturers of external DVD recorders for pc and Blu Ray discs.
